Doll Tea Party
March 2001

Hosted by Liz Herman and Beth Karpas

The tea was a big success, to judge by the amount of conversation, attendence (10?), and thank you emails I've received. We had a number of "gals" from the gals and dolls club in San Jose, who shared their dolls and tried to recruit new members. :-) thanks to Donna Ashley for getting her club involved.

We had a few stand alone dollmakers, including Lisa who got the award for travelling the furthest, all the way from Marin County, and for having the largest doll.

The dolls on display ranged from 1" miniatures to a three foot graceful lady. There were original patterns, collected dolls, and dolls made in classes. All styles and lots of new ideas!

We had a tea cup/mug full of notions swap, and some pattern and magazine trades. Thanks to Carol for bringing some wonderful fibers she wasn't going to spin that will make hair on dolls for everyone at the party.

Most importantly, i think we all made some new friends, which, after all, was the point, wasn't it? Even if we only see each other on focd. :-)

So thank you to all of those who came for tea and dolls. Same time next year, maybe? And thanks to Cheryl, too, for coming up with the idea in the first place. Beth

Liz and Beth provided a generous amount of delicious sweets and savories.
We each brought a mug full of notions and such and then drew a number from a teacup so that we each got to take home a party favor. People also brought fabric, patterns, hair materials, etc. to trade and share.
We did a "Drag and Brag". I love that term! I had never heard it before. The dolls were placed on top of Beth's turtle aquarium and the two turtles didn't seem to mind at all. Actually they seemed quite interested in what was happening all around them! The dolls were marvelous and an eclectic mix: two sets of adorable and unique boys and girls, a perfectly petite Uncle Sam, an exquisite elf of a man, a fabulous African Queen and drummer, precious tiny teddies and girls, a breath-taking young lady carrying a basket of fishes, and incredible inside out, topsey/turvey with feet storybook characters. I brought my Lady Grace from Making Memories along with my Japanese Lady and Pop Top from Julie McCullough. If I missed mentioning any one's doll, please forgive me.
The very best part was meeting and talking with people who share a similar interest and who I hope I will see again. What a wonderful bunch of woman!! Liz and Beth, thank you for a great job! *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^**^*^*^* Lisa in San Anselmo, CA
